Why you should choose a wool blanket made from virgin wool?

The natural benefits of wool

Wool can absorb moisture and release it back into the surrounding air. At the same time, it retains warmth and helps maintain a balanced climate. This makes virgin wool a versatile natural material that not only keeps you warm but also adapts comfortably to different temperatures.

As a natural and renewable resource, virgin wool is particularly well suited to durable home textiles designed to be enjoyed for many years. A high-quality virgin wool blanket is hard-wearing, retains its shape and, with proper care, is made to last.

Which wool blanket is right for you?

Merino, alpaca or mountain sheep wool

Every type of wool has its own unique character, influencing the feel of a blanket and making it suitable for different needs. Merino wool is exceptionally fine and soft, alpaca wool is wonderfully lightweight while still keeping you warm, while mountain sheep wool is robust and particularly hard-wearing.

Understanding these differences makes it easier to find the perfect wool blanket for your needs, whether you are looking for a lightweight blanket to snuggle up with, a cosy blanket for your home or a particularly durable companion for everyday use.

The right wool blanket for every moment

A Steiner1888 wool blanket made from virgin wool is a versatile companion throughout the year, whether you are relaxing in the living room, getting cosy in the bedroom or enjoying a cool evening outdoors.

On the sofa, it adds natural warmth and comfort, quickly becoming a favourite for relaxing moments. In the bedroom, our sleeping blanket reveals its special strength: it can replace a traditional duvet while creating a pleasantly balanced and breathable sleeping environment all year round.
Wool blankets are just as versatile in summer. Lighter models are ideal for balconies, terraces or gardens, providing just the right amount of warmth without making you feel too hot.

How to care for your wool blanket

Simple care for long-lasting quality

Wool is naturally self-cleaning and resistant to dirt. Regularly shaking out your blanket and airing it in the fresh air is therefore usually all it needs.

If cleaning is necessary, please follow the care instructions provided for your particular wool blanket. This will help preserve the natural properties of the virgin wool and ensure that you can enjoy your blanket for many years to come.

More questions about our wool blankets

100% virgin wool means that only new wool is used, obtained directly by shearing a living animal and processed into a textile product for the first time. Unlike recycled wool, it has not been previously processed or re-used.

Whether a wool blanket feels itchy depends mainly on the type of wool used and the fineness of its fibres. Particularly fine wool fibres, such as merino wool, feel pleasantly soft and comfortable. Mountain sheep wool, on the other hand, has a slightly coarser fibre and a distinctive, natural feel. Which wool blanket feels most comfortable is therefore also a matter of personal preference.

The right size for a wool blanket depends on how and where you plan to use it. Compact sizes are ideal for the sofa, while larger wool blankets offer more room to snuggle up and can also be used as an extra layer in the bedroom. For the balcony, terrace or when travelling, smaller, easy-to-carry sizes are particularly practical. When choosing a blanket, it is therefore worth considering not only the design but also its intended use and size.
