On what occasions do people wear a Schladminger?

In the Styrian Enns Valley, the Schladminger janker is worn as festive clothing. In addition, the Schladminger is often used to dress clubs and music bands for a collective appearance. Ladies and gentlemen of the region wear the Schladminger to almost all festivities, from folk festivals to funerals. By tradition, some ladies and gentlemen also wear their Schladminger as an outdoor jacket on Sundays in winter.

How heavy is the Schladminger jacket?

The weight of a men's Schladminger is around 2.5 kilograms. Schladmingers for ladies are made of a lighter Schladming fabric and therefore weigh between 1.1 - 1.5 kilograms, depending on the size. The Schladming fabric is the most robust of our virgin wool fabrics. It is extremely durable and long lasting.

Traditionally, a Schladminger janker is worn with a Styrian hat, which has the same green loden hatband as the Schladminger. Ladies and gentlemen also often wear loden pants with the Schladminger or combine it casually with jeans.

Can I wash a Schladminger?

No, but you don't have as well. The Schladminger for men and women is extremely dirt and water repellent. However, if a stain does occur, it can easily be brushed out of the fabric. The best way to care for a Schladminger is to regularly hang it outdoors overnight. By the way, by constantly moving the fabric you also protect it from moths.
